American Wire Gauge

American Wire Gauge is a standardized numbering system that identifies the diameter and cross-sectional area of electrical wire. The system uses smaller gauge numbers for larger conductors and larger gauge numbers for smaller conductors. Electricians use AWG to select wire for ampacity, voltage drop, equipment connections, and safe circuit installation.

Ampacity
